Vehicle manufacturers are faced with trying to meet ever increasing fuel economy standards. One of the changes the manufacturers have embraced is computer-controlling the charging systems to minimize the rotating resistance of the alternators. These computer-controlled charging systems require a system-wide diagnostic procedure.
This course helps to introduce technicians to these computer-controlled charging systems, as well as reinforce the sometimes-forgotten procedures needed for diagnosing charging system failures. The course begins with battery and cable diagnosis, basic alternator operation, as well as belt and pulley inspections. The course then continues, covering the different vehicle manufacturers’ charging system operation and diagnosis.
